Limited Capacity seats available
This professional learning session is designed to empower secondary math teachers with innovative strategies for integrating manipulatives into their math instruction. Participants will explore the use of three specific types of manipulatives—x-y coordinate slide boards, exploragons, and algebra tiles. These tools are chosen for their ability to enhance understanding of complex mathematical concepts and to promote student engagement.
Objectives:
1. Understand the Role of Manipulatives: Gain insights into how manipulatives can be used to deepen understanding of mathematical concepts and support diverse learning styles.
2. Explore and Utilize Specific Manipulatives:
a. X-Y Coordinate Slide Boards: Learn how to use these boards to teach graphing, coordinate plane navigation, and linear equations.
b. Exploragons: Discover ways exploragons can facilitate understanding of geometric shapes, properties, and transformations.
c. Algebra Tiles: Practice using algebra tiles for solving equations, visualizing algebraic expressions, and understanding polynomial operations.
3. Develop Practical Applications: Collaboratively design lesson activities that incorporate manipulatives, aiming to enhance student engagement and comprehension.
