Using Verse Novels in MS/HS ELA and Social Studies Classrooms
LIMITED
Monday October 19, 2026 9:55am - 12:35pm EDT
Limited Capacity seats available
A middle school ELA teacher and a high school ELA/Social Studies teacher from Springport Public Schools share strategies on how to teach the engaging verse novels of Alone by Megan E. Freeman and Audacity by Meleanie Crowder in a cross curricular focus. Participants will engage in several disciplinary literacy strategies that can be employed quickly into their own classrooms and/or inspire them to explore using verse novels in their own classrooms. Techniques shared in this session were gained or inspired from sessions attended at the 2025 Annual National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Conference in Denver, CO. Their attendance to the conference was made possible by John George Grant.
